Slater Vecchio LLP is partnering with Cameray Child & Family Services to host a backpack drive in support of vulnerable women and children navigating the criminal justice system after experiencing abuse - and MindSense Canada is proud to take part.

As part of this initiative, MindSense has donated $500 worth of thoughtfully selected items to support survivors navigating the justice process. The team assembled a backpack filled with comfort, grounding, and practical resources - designed to provide support during some of the most difficult stages, including trial.

Cameray Child & Family Services is a non-profit organization serving Burnaby and New Westminster, providing counselling, education, outreach, and advocacy to children, youth, and families. Notably, Cameray is the only program in British Columbia with a specific focus on supporting child survivors and regularly assists individuals who must testify in criminal proceedings.

The backpack initiative aims to raise $1,500 - which will be matched by Slater Vecchio - bringing the total impact to $3,000. These funds will allow 20 backpacks to be filled with carefully chosen items that offer stability and reassurance during what can be an overwhelming and retraumatizing experience.

“At MindSense, we work closely with individuals navigating complex legal and institutional systems following trauma. We understand how critical it is to provide not just clinical expertise, but compassionate, practical support during high-stress moments. We’re honoured to contribute to an initiative that helps survivors feel supported and grounded as they move through the justice process.”

This collaboration reflects a shared commitment to trauma-informed care and survivor-centred support - values that are central to the work of both legal and mental health professionals.

MindSense is grateful for the opportunity to stand alongside Slater Vecchio and Cameray in supporting survivors during some of the most challenging moments of their lives.
